Micromesistius poutassou
Blue whiting
The blue whiting is a fish that generally lives in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It can move at depths between 100 and 3,000 m, but usually lives between 200 and 400 m.
It is a sociable fish as it swims in small schools and usually feeds at night when it rises to the surface. Small fish, cephalopods and crustaceans are part of their diet.
The blue whiting stands out for its aggressiveness, attacking everything that seems to be food, not only killing what it is going to eat, but it is also not unusual for it to destroy more than what it needs.
